Botanical Art Workshop | Jessie Ford

Botanical Art Workshop | Jessie Ford

Jessie Rose Ford’s techniques in watercolour painting and grey lead drawing lend her botanical subjects an impressive level of realism. As a Melbourne-based artist, Jessie’s passion for nature and the environment is evident in her work and in the numerous solo and group exhibitions in which her work has featured. Her art residency on Flinders Island in Tasmania in 2015 also led to Jessie receiving the Highly Commended Prize at the ReFraming Nature exhibition at the Melbourne Royal Botanical Gardens that year.
After several years experience in teaching her botanical art techniques, Jessie is now embarking on a journey around Australia, to share her knowledge, connect with
communities and build new relationships – all while exploring more of our beautiful country and its diverse natural environments.

About this class

Prior to the invention of photography, botanical art was the only way of documenting plant life. In recent years though, botanical art has experienced a resurgence, not only as a means of capturing the uniqueness of plants and flowers and contributing to scientific and environmental research, but as an art form in its own right.
In this one day workshop, award winning, Victorian-based botanical artist, Jessie Rose Ford, will show you how to capture the secret life of plants in watercolour.
Under Jessie’s guidance you can learn the time-honoured techniques of botanical art and discover why Jessie and many others have developed a passion for this art form.

What will I learn?

Jessie will guide you through her step-by-step process to create your own botanical painting, including:
• how to draw your subject accurately
• transferring your drawing onto watercolour paper

• watercolour techniques including wet-in-wet, blending and dry brush
• an appreciation for the minutiae of nature!
