Beyond Drawing A Stick Figure | Jane James

Beyond Drawing A Stick Figure | Jane James

Many people enjoyed drawing enormously as a child and remember it fondly. But for many, somewhere along the way their confidence faltered, and they came to believe that they “just weren't any good at it” and that they “can only draw stick figures”.

If this sounds familiar, then this weekend workshop is for you!

In a low-pressure environment, you will go back to the stick figure and start drawing from there. Accomplished artist, Jane James, will guide you in exploring materials, demystifying the numbers and letters on pencils, and discovering things you can do with erasers that go way beyond hiding maths errors.
You will get answers to the questions you always wanted to ask about drawing but were too afraid to.

What will I learn?

Over two days of examination, examples, and experimentation you will learn about the language of drawing, from where you put a line, through to common mistakes and troubleshooting. Jane will help to unpack the mysteries of achieving three dimensional objects on a two dimensional surface and change the way you see the world.

Day one will focus on:
• an explanation and exploration of different drawing materials and their applications
• a look at line, shape, and contours
• measurement and getting things in proportion.

Day two will focus on:
• tone, and ways to create it
• light on basic shapes
• ways to create dimension in your drawings.
• breaking it all down and bringing it all together.
