Watercolour Natural History and Botanicals | Heidi Willis

Watercolour Natural History and Botanicals | Heidi Willis

Heidi’s classes always have a strong focus on the watercolour medium. She will explore washes, glazes and dry brushing to help your work progress and to find the best way forward for you as an individual artist.

Through extensive demonstrations, step-by-step tuition, and guided learning we will work to demystify and simplify the process and create valuable strategies to achieve successful outcomes. Together we will find a new level of confidence and establish sound footholds for independent painting beyond my workshops. I’d like to welcome you to join this fantastic opportunity and group, I look forward to seeing you in the wash!

What will I learn?

Day 1 – We start the day by investigating materials and happy studio set up. Next we begin exploring some helpful, practical work strategies that will assist you to form and develop ideas into finished painting concepts. These approaches and tips will help solve many of your painting problems to get you started on the best possible foundations for the best results. From here we begin to explore basic watercolour techniques of wash, glazing and dry brushing to start producing a beautiful botanical study.

Day 2 – We continue to develop our confidence, logic and understanding of the watercolour medium, applying these watercolour techniques to complete our botanical painting.

Day 3 – Brings us a wonderful opportunity to focus on a more intricate complimentary subject often found and enjoyed in botanical painting. Full of fun, finely detailed subjects such as butterflies, insects and bees often require slightly different approaches, painting techniques and subtle balances to achieve. On day three we have a particular focus on the beauty of dry brushing techniques in our work, ultimately covering the essential cross section of all skills necessary to create successful, beautiful natural history botanical paintings
