3D Felt Vessels | Denise Lithgow

Denise Lithgow is one of Australia’s leading textile artists. Her 2D felt pictures and sculptured felt vessels are colourful, vibrant semi abstracts, which are inspired by her love of the landscape. She exhibits regularly in solo and group exhibitions nationally and internationally, has won many prizes, is published regularly at home and abroad and continues to search for new forms of expression.

About this class

Design and create a fun, colourful and unique sculptural vessel using pure merino wool.

What will I learn?

Textile artist Denise Lithgow will teach the process of making and moulding felt into innovative forms and shapes. You will learn how to mould felt into shapes, then translate these into 3 dimensional non functional vessels.
Enthusiasm and imagination are the best ingredients to bring along to this workshop. In this workshop, a progressive range of skills will be developed, so that the participate feels confident designing their own range of felt vessels. This is a fun and exciting workshop for anyone interested in colour and sculpture. Suitable for beginners to experienced participants.

What do I need to bring?

Materials List

• Bubble wrap (small bubbles) approx 2 pieces 50x50cm and 1 metre (this is use to roll the felt)
• 1 litre plastic drinks container with plastic lid with small holes punched in it, needs to hold warm water – to use to wet fibre down.
• 1x plastic container for water eg ice cream container
• Old towel
• Approx 80cm length of PVC tubing from 2cm to 5cm diameter or dowel wood 80 cm eg broom handle width (used for rolling the felt.)
• 4x lengths of elastic approx. 30cm to tie up bubble wrap for rolling.
• 20 clothes pegs
• 1x Pure Soap such as olive oil, sunlight soap
• Wool fibre merino tops 22microns at least 400 to 500 grams in assorted colours of your choice.
• A few embellishments such as, yarns knitting wools, needles, threads, heavy thread for stitching into the wool, scissors, tape measure.
• pens, note book

Please bring an apron, covered shoes, water bottle and lunch. We have a fridge available at the studio.
